Biography - Walter Pinckney Doty

Walter Pinckney Doty of Grenada, was born July 8, 1860 at Pickens, Miss., and is the son of Jacob Johnston Doty and wife, Susan (Campbell) Doty. His ancestors came to America from England and Scotland. Edward Doty, the first of the name to emigrate to America, came over on the Mayflower. The family at a later period removed to North Carolina. The subject of this sketch is related to the Johnston, Campbell, Zollicoffer and Pinckney families of North Carolina. His father was a physician; was a surgeon in the Confederate Army and practiced his profession for many years in Duck Hill, Miss. |
Mr. Doty attended the public schools of his county; read law and was admitted to the bar in Grenada in 1889; was graduated from the law school of the University of Mississippi with the degree L.L.B.; elected to the Legislature from Grenada and Montgomery Counties in 1895. re-elected November 3, 1903. Mr. Doty is a Democrat; member of the Episcopal Church, vestryman; Odd Fellow, Grand Secretary of Grand Lodge since 1893; was married at Grenada December 20, 1892 to Maria Louise Jones, daughter of Roland W. Jones and wife, Elizabeth Clouston. Mrs. Doty's ancestors came to Mississippi from Virinia; her father was a Captain in the Confederate Army and member of the Legislature from Yalobusha County. Mr. and Mrs. Doty have four children; Roland Ward, Carrie Jones, Emma Clouston and Walter Pinckney, Jr.,
